In the Davis’ name, in partnership with the Jewish Federation of Las Vegas, the Ramat Hanegev Regional Council and the ‘PERACH’ mentoring project, a higher education scholarship fund was established. This was the fourth consecutive year that the Davis Fund awarded scholarships; this year there were 148 Ramat Hanegev grateful students who received a total of NIS 850,000.
This year, to our delight, 89 of the 148 scholarship recipients were active members in the Young Adults Center’s social involvement project.
There is no doubt that the Davis family has become an integral part of Ramat Hanegev, so much so that many of our local students and residents have come to know them personally. As in previous years, the couple asked to meet with Shlomit Odeson, principal of the Mashabim School, and to see first-hand the wonderful progress taking place there.
Their visit also featured a tour of the Ben-Gurion Archives where their host, Dr. Adi Portugez, shared an historic letter handwritten by Ben Gurion and sent to the Las Vegas Jewish community leadership with regard to the establishment of a high school at the Midrasha!!!
Fascinating meetings with the people at the Young Adults Center took place, and in a moving ceremony at the Desert Agricultural R&D Center, Lawrence affirmed, “As long as I live, the scholarship project will continue…”
