The 21st Ben Gurion Walk: so what’s been going on around here?
The 21st Ben Gurion walk took place this year, commemorating 40 years since David Ben-Gurion’s passing and marking the 50th ‘birthday’ of Midreshet Ben-Gurion and its educational institutions.
In excellent weather and spectacular scenery, nearly 10,000 people took part in the two-day walk.
On the first day, which was open to the public, thousands came from all around the country. The second day was dedicated to schools and educational institutions, local authorities’ including our own Council’s educational institutions – Mashabim School, Zin School, Desert Spirit, and the Nitzana educational settlement community.
Participants walked on three different trails: the [short] family trail of 7km; the [medium] ‘challenge’ group and family trail of 15km; and the [long] athletes’ trail of 22km.
All along the Walk, participants enjoyed street theater in the spirit of David Ben-Gurion and a wide variety of family activities. At the finish-line, they all enjoyed a final “happening” that featured a food court, music, games, arts & crafts and other great activities.
Many partners collaborated in organizing the Walk, including the Ministry of Culture and Sport, Metropolin Co., EAOL, ICL, JNF, the Barnir Group, Machteshim-Agan Co., Hapo’el Center, and the Ben-Gurion Heritage Institute.
We would like to extend special thanks to the organizers: Midreshet Sde Boker, Mechinat Hanegev and the Field School, and the Environmental Education High School, as well as the talented production team.
