Ramat Hanegev Regional Council and the entities affiliated with it maintain close ties with The Negev Foundation located in Cleveland, Ohio, USA.
The Negev Foundation was established two decades ago in order to help the Negev community grow and flourish based on development of local economy, education and agriculture. The founder and president is Mr. Sam Hoenig – a man for whom the Negev, in general, and Ramat Hanegev Regional Council, in particular, are very close to his heart.
The Foundation, recognized by US tax authorities, has contributed over the years large sums earmarked for local development – mainly the Desert Agriculture Center. The Center, inaugurated in early 2008 and considered the flagship of the Foundation’s work, focuses on applied research to promote the use of brackish (semi-saline) water found in abundance in Ramat Hanegev, using advanced technologies to utilize this water under challenging conditions. The Foundation’s future objective is to continue raising funds to establish a center in Ramat Hanegev to promote research on various aspects of water and nature.
The Negev Foundation is involved in and has initiated other regional ventures dealing with agriculture, tourism, scientific cooperation and commercial ties with Israel, etc. It also assists in community and social projects.
Foundation board members in the US are actively involved in the activity of the council and for that we deeply thank and honor them.
