Several months ago, Chemi Cohen was appointed to the voluntary position of Bedouin adviser to the regional council. Under his guidance, council assembly members took an educational tour among our Bedouin neighbors.
After the tour, the council mayor decided to hold discussions with Har Hanegev Bedouin tribal leaders and hosted them for a reciprocal visit at the council. During the meeting the Bedouin guests heard an overview of what is being done in the nearby vicinity, and the council mayor’s vision of promoting Bedouin tourism in Har Hanegev was presented to them. The tourism department headed by Raz Arbel is involved in promoting an orderly plan on this subject.
Additionally, a pilot project for garbage disposal that took place successfully in Kefar Ro’im (Avdat) will be extended in the 2014 work year to other areas of Har Hanegev. Furthermore, cooperation will be explored on various topics, including cultural, educational and other collaborations.
The council mayor concluded that “one meeting is not enough to generate cooperation and we need to work on it consistently”. He instructed the professional staff dealing with the matter to hold a work meeting every few months.
