HIP Delegation from Denver: Learning Hebrew in the Desert
At the beginning of December, during Hanukkah, a delegation of 22 teens from Denver, Colorado, landed in Israel in the framework of HIP (the Hebrew Immersion Program).
In this program, 10th graders from the JDDS Jewish high school in Denver come to the Ramat Hanegev region for six weeks to learn Hebrew and Israeli studies at the Environmental High School at Midreshet Ben-Gurion. This program is considered to be one of the flagship programs of all the partnerships in Israel.
After a weekend in Jerusalem the teens arrived in the region on Sunday, December 8th, 2013, and joined the “Gadna” [pre-army cadet simulation for Israeli teens] program at Sde Boker. After spending several days there, the pupils then carry on with their Hebrew studies for five more weeks. The group is being accompanied by Hannah Sivan, from the field school, who is coordinating the program with two excellent counselors.
