Education Minister and Member of Knesset, Rabbi Shai Piron, visited Ramat Hanegev last Tuesday, June 4th 2013.
The minister, together with the Education Ministry’s district manager Amira Haim and her staff, visited the region and met with a wide range of educators, kindergarten teachers, teachers and principals, and with elementary and high school students and graduates of the Negev Leadership Pre-military Academy.
The morning tour was led by Mayor Shmulik Rifman and Eran Doron, head of the regional council’s department of education and community, who presented the minister and his entourage with the ideological world view of the educational system in Ramat Hanegev, as well as the multilayered complexity of the challenges it faces. The minister visited kindergartens in Kfar Retamim, the Mashabim Elementary School, and the Ben-Gurion Heritage Institute and held a brief discussion with students from the region’s unique Environmental High School and with cadets from the Negev Pre-military Academy.
At the end of his visit, Mr. Piron said that he was deeply impressed by the rich world of values and content embodied in the diverse educational spheres in Ramat Hanegev and expressed his wish “to take this idealistic, pioneering spirit and language that I have been introduced to here and convey it to the greater public and to many other places in Israel.”
